Sky Italia: La bella vista

During the 2012 Olympics, Sky Italia took advantage of Tower Bridge TV Studios’ iconic London views for its local coverage of the event, supported by Trickbox TV.

 

The Sky Italia team built a set in the Studios’ event space, which is adjacent to the main studio and emulates its picture windows, and also brought in equipment and crew for the duration of the Olympics. Trickbox TV installed a lighting grid and also managed the installation of additional power and air conditioning to keep the studio comfortable and safe.

 

To get even more of the ‘London look’ Sky Italia put a radio camera in a scoop on the outside of the building, and Trickbox TV installed an RF link on the roof of the building for the radio cam. The Trickbox team also managed the installation of a fibre circuit to Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS); the feed was sent to OBS and then transmitted to Italy. 

 

The show was planned to go live to coincide with the opening ceremony, and everything worked perfectly. Trickbox TV also supplied technical back-up for the duration of the Olympics with a Technical Manager and Engineer onsite throughout, who stayed until midnight each night to provide transmission support for the late shows.
